What's the difference between the Stir Sticks and The Original HAY! Straws®?
Although they come in the same lengths, our HAY! stir sticks have a smaller diameter of 1.5-3.5mm , whereas our Original Straws have a wider diameter of 3.5-5mm. The stirrers are intended for stirring and the straws are better for sipping.
Are HAY! Straws® gluten-free?
Yes, our straws are gluten-free and verified by independent third-party laboratory testing. Our Original Straws and stir sticks are made from the stem of a wheat plant, which typically doesn't contain gluten (that's in the grain). The Gluten-Free Organization's standards for a food or product to be gluten-free is under 10ppm, and our testing results have always returned negative or undetectable levels of gluten. To ensure our customers' safety, we periodically batch test our straws for gluten, and we are always happy to provide our customers with our gluten-free laboratory results—just ask!
Do Hay! Straws contain wheat?
Yes, Original Hay! Straws® and stir sticks are made from the stem of the wheat plant, so they contain wheat stems, not wheat grain. Typically, most wheat allergies are from the ingestion of wheat, but Hay! Straws® are not intended to be eaten or digested and should only be used as a straw to drink various liquids. We recommend people with a wheat allergy consult their allergen expert before using them. Our wider Jumbo Straws, including Martini, Tall, Jumbo XL, and Boba straws, are all wheat and gluten-free and are made from reed plant stems.
Are HAY! Straws® non-GMO?
Our HAY! Straws are non-GMO. Almost all wheat grown in the world is non-GMO because wheat varieties can be naturally bred and do not require genetic modification to achieve desired results. Our straws are not formally certified yet, but this is something we are looking to complete.
